A newbie named Jenny Slate, a New York comedian, dropped the four-letter "no-no" while playing the part of a biker chick in a Saturday Night Live skit. The look on her face when she realized what popped from her mouth was priceless.

Michigan Facing Government Shutdown - 2nd Time in 3 Years!
By James Raymond Reese on Sep 27, 2009 | In News, Commentary | Send feedback »

How can state legislators, in ANY state, spend so outlandishly that they run the state $3 billion dollars in the hole EVERY year? Now, Michigan discovers that half of their problem can be paid for by other states (through the federal government) that haven't been so stupid, incompetent, immoral and unethical.
Why are we bailing them out? This makes no sense. Force all states like this to live within their means and they will find ways to do so.

White House Quietly Collecting Data on Web Users

The White House is collecting and storing comments and videos placed on its social-networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube without notifying or asking the consent of the site users, a failure that appears to run counter to President Obama's promise of a transparent government and his pledge to protect privacy on the Internet.

Regarding Email Quoting Professor Olson of Hemline University.....
By James Raymond Reese on Sep 15, 2009 | In News | 3 feedbacks »
Yes, there really IS a Professor Joseph Olson who teaches at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. Hamline, not Hemline.
The original email surfaced shortly after the Bush/Gore election in 2000. Most recently it has been altered to add a reference to illegal immigration.
However, all of the "facts" in the email are either correct, distorted or made up. It isn't always easy to tell but some things, like the state counts, are so incorrect as to shed doubt on the entire work.
The "Professor Tyler" mentioned in the email is an 18th Century instructor from Scotland (real spelling of the name is "Tytler") who is often incorrectly attributed with creating the stages of the rise and fall of a democracy. The earliest known reference to the stages was in a speech to gathered businessmen by the head of a cork company in the 1940s.
Oh, and one other VERY important piece of information: the following is posted on Professor Olson's web page:
"DISCLAIMER: There is an e-mail floating around the internet dealing with the 2000 Bush/Gore election, remarks of a Scotish philosopher named Alexander Tyler, etc. Part of it is attributed to me. It is entirely BOGUS as to my authorship. I've been trying to kill it since December 2000."
That pretty well sums it all up.
Below is the copy of the email currently making the rounds.
--------------------
Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota points out some interesting facts concerning the Presidential election:
Number of States won by:
Democrats: 19
Republicans: 29=20
Square miles of land won by:
Democrats: 580,000
Republicans: 2,427,000
Population of counties won by:
Democrats: 127 million
Republicans: 143 million
Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by:
Democrats: 13.2
Republicans: 2.1
Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Republicans won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country.
Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..."
Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.
If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegals and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.
Apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom.

I received the following email today. Do these people think anyone takes them seriously?
It was supposedly sent by "info@fedex.com" but I can read all the headers. It was actually sent out through a server at a university in Argentina. And the email contact address is in Hong Kong?
Sure, I'll pay the FedEx man $120 for an envelope full of nothing!
Sorry, Hong Kong, Nigeria REALLY knows how to scam people.

A U.S. District Judge in California has tentatively scheduled a trial for Jan. 26, 2010, for a case that challenges Barack Obama's eligibility to be president based on questions over his qualifications under the requirements of the U.S. Constitution.
If the case actually goes to arguments before U.S. District Judge David Carter, it will be the first time the merits of the dispute have been argued in open court.

Fines Up To $3,800 If You Don't Buy Health Insurance Under Obamacare
By James Raymond Reese on Sep 9, 2009 | In News | Send feedback »

Americans would be fined up to $3,800 for failing to buy health insurance under a plan that circulated in Congress on Tuesday as President Obama met Democratic leaders to search for ways to salvage his health care overhaul. Just as auto coverage is now mandatory in most states, the bill would a require all Americans to get health insurance once the system is overhauled.
This brilliant idea is the work of Democrat Max Baucus of Montana.

Taxpayers face losses on a significant portion of the $81 billion in government aid provided to the auto industry. That assessment comes from an oversight panel in a report to be released today. Other agencies have also projected large losses. The Congressional Budget Office estimated in June that taxpayers would lose about $40 billion of the first $55 billion in aid.

Man Wrongly Placed on Britain's "End of Life" Scheme

The daughter of a stroke victim claims that her father is wrongly placed on a National Health Service scheme which experts say is causing some patients to die too soon. We've been arguing with them and they don't like it," Mrs Munkenbeck claims. "They say my sister and I are cruel and are trying to hold on to our father. But this man has a right to life. He's looking at us and talking to us. He's not suffering from a terminal illness, he just had a stroke. We just feel they decided from the beginning that he's 95 so they've written him off."

Federal Court Hearing Tuesday on Legitimacy of Obama Birth Certificate
By James Raymond Reese on Sep 7, 2009 | In News | 7 feedbacks »
Link: http://bit.ly/pGH8Z
An affidavit, which includes a "certified copy" of a Kenyan birth certificate, has been filed with Judge David Carter of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. Carter is scheduled to preside over a hearing on the case on Sept. 8.
The plaintiffs, including former presidential candidate Alan Keyes, hope the judge will order expedited discovery which would open all of the documents Obama has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep sealed.
The "certification of live birth" posted online and widely touted as "Obama's birth certificate" does not in any way prove he was born in Hawaii, since the same "short-form" document is easily obtainable for children not born in Hawaii. The true "long-form" birth certificate – which includes information such as the name of the birth hospital and attending physician – is the only document that can prove Obama was born in Hawaii, but to date he has not permitted its release for public or press scrutiny.
Oddly, though congressional hearings were held to determine whether Sen. John McCain was constitutionally eligible to be president as a "natural born citizen," no controlling legal authority ever sought to verify Obama's claim to a Hawaiian birth.

UK's Government-Run Medical Scheme Forcing Terminal Patients to Die Early

Patients with terminal illnesses are being made to die prematurely under an NHS scheme to help end their lives. A group of experts who care for the terminally ill claim that some patients are being wrongly judged as close to death. This allows the medical system to withdraw fluids and drugs while many are put on continuous sedation until they pass away.
