Global Warming Efforts Called "Immoral" in Africa
By James Raymond Reese on Aug 5, 2009 | In News | Send feedback »
Africans are battling AIDS, malaria, lung infections, intestinal diseases, war, malnutrition and other problems that kill millions each year, "and yet day after day, Africans are told the biggest threat we face is global warming."
That's the complaint of leading African social worker Fiona Kobusingye, coordinator of Congress of Racial Equality Uganda and the Kill Malarial Mosquitoes Now Brigade.
In a column for Townhall.com, Kobusingye writes that predictions of global warming disasters are being used "to justify telling Africans that we shouldn´t build coal or natural gas electrical power plants. It´s the almost total absence of electricity [that is] keeping us from
creating jobs and becoming modern societies . . . These policies kill.
"The average African lifespan is lower than it was in the United States and Europe 100 years ago. But Africans are being told we shouldn´t develop, or have electricity or cars because, now that those countries are rich beyond anything Africans can imagine, they´re worried about global warming.
"Al Gore and [United Nations] climate boss Yvo de Boer tell us the world needs to go on an energy diet. Well, I have news for them. Africans are already on an energy diet. We´re starving!
"Al Gore uses more electricity in a week than 28 million Ugandans together use in a year. And those anti-electricity policies are keeping us impoverished."
Not having electricity "means disease and death" in Africa, Kobusingye said. "It means millions die from lung infections, because they have to cook and heat with open fires; from intestinal diseases caused by spoiled food and unsafe drinking water; from malaria, TB, cholera, measles and other diseases that we could prevent or treat if we had proper medical facilities.
"Hypothetical global warming a hundred years from now is worse than this?
"Telling Africans they can´t have electricity and economic development - except what can be produced with some wind turbines or little solar panels - is immoral. It is a crime against humanity."
Kobusingye concludes: "Uganda and Africa need to stop worrying about what the West, the U.N. and Al Gore say. We need to focus on our own needs, resources, and opportunities."
When People Really Look at Socialized Medical Care, Growing Numbers Decide the US System Is Pretty Good After All.
By James Raymond Reese on Aug 3, 2009 | In News, Commentary | Send feedback »

Free Health Care sounds pretty good until you look at what has happened in other countries who have tried it.
For instance, if Canada's health care is so good, why do many Canadians now shell out of their own pocket for private insurance?
Why is Britain looking at forbidding health care professionals to give Swine Flu vaccine to people over 65?
Why do a lot of Canadians with cancer find they can't get a diagnosis until they are terminal?
The fact is, socialized medicine, the kind Obama wants for you, very quickly runs out of money. Instead of returning to a private care system, the socialists would rather let their people die than give up power.
Americans are beginning to catch on to the fraud being pushed by the president and the Democratic party. More and more are thinking the US system isn't so bad after all.

California is going bankrupt after decades of Democratic rule. The state has had to issue IOUs to its employees because there is no honest money left in the treasury. And what do the idiots in the unions do to help? They authorize a strike.

Rasmussen: Cut Postal Services, Don't Raise Stamp Prices
By James Raymond Reese on Jul 31, 2009 | In News | Send feedback »

A growing number of Americans are saying the Post Office should reduce services instead of continually raising the price of a stamp. Reduction of services is also favored over government subsidies to keep the USPS operating at current levels.
A government-subsidized postal service might have been needed in 1776 but it's getting harder to justify another money-losing government bureaucracy when FedEx and UPS can perform the same service and, in a lot of cases, more quickly.

Obama's Approval Rating Slides Again in the Past 24 Hours

Only 28% of America's likely voters "strongly approve" of President Obama's handling of his job. 40% now "strongly disapprove." These numbers are from the latest daily polling done by Rasmussen among likely voters and they are the worst the president has yet faced.
The approval numbers are dropping on an almost daily basis.
Only a small percentage of Americans feel the stimulus package worked at all. Most consider it a wasted trillion dollars. Fewer than 30% believe Obama's healthcare package will reduce medical costs. In fact, most think the costs will go up.
The bailouts haven't struck a positive chord. Neither has the nationalization of two of the Big 3 automakers.

Gallup Poll Shows Obama's Approval Ratings At All-Time Low
By James Raymond Reese on Jul 30, 2009 | In News, Commentary | Send feedback »
The latest Gallup figures for the president can not be cause for happiness at the White House. Adding all of the "Approve" categories from "somewhat" to "strongly" together, the approval rating has dropped to 53 while the disapproval numbers have increased to 39.
The is particularly bad news for the president. Gallup interviews all adults while some other polling organizations poll only those likely to vote. This difference means Gallup is polling groups of people (young people for instance) who have opinions but who don't always go to the polls in droves.
The latest Rasmussen poll results will be released later today. Rasmussen interviews "likely voters." It will be interesting to see how much of a difference the polling strategies make in the president's approval ratings.
Rasmussen: Obama's Approval Ratings Down 4 in Past Week, 11 in Past Month

Only 23% of Americans are still gullible enough to think health care costs will go down under Obama's socialized program.
Fully half of the nation's adults disapprove of the presidents performance.
In a generic poll, Republicans now have a slight edge over Democrats for congress in 2010 and the number are getting worse each week for the Democrats.
